Of all the heritage restoration projects I have worked on, the Glenorchy School House is my favourite. The School House is another important piece of history for the small Glenorchy township. The building was originally located at the Glenorchy Primary School where it had fallen into a neglected state.
The new home for the school house was to be Paradise Trust, but getting it there involved a 20-kilometre journey. The solution came in cutting the building into 18 pieces and moving it up the road. Putting the building back together not only took great care and precision, but it also required a builder who was sympathetic to the age of the building and could skilfully return it to its former glory. The project took several months, but the Glenorchy School House now has a new home at Paradise Trust where it is used to host groups and as a meeting space.
